Wilfrid P. “Sonny” Mathews, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Mary Lucille (Faron) Mathews for 53 years. Devoted father of Rose (John) Youngblood, Mary Jane Mathews, Joseph Mathews, and John (Christine) Mathews. Loving grandfather of Lucy Youngblood, Sarah, Zachary and Lillian Mathews. Brother of Sister Rose Anthony Mathews ASC, Frances (Mathews) Morris, and the late Irene “Janie” Mathews. Cherished brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Wil was born on October 30, 1938 in Prairie du Rocher, Ill. to the late Arthur and Rose (Sommer) Mathews. At a very young age, Wil lost his parents and was lovingly cared for by the extended Mathews and Sommer families for whom we are extremely grateful. Wil graduated from Francis Howell High School. Stationed in Germany, Wil served as a Radio Communication Specialist for the United States Army.

Wil was employed as an automobile mechanic for Greyhound Bus Lines, Joseph J. Faron and Sons Shell Station, and finished his career with Frank Fisher/ Design Aire, Inc. from which he retired in 2004. A dedicated volunteer, Wil served as one of the early founders of St. Anselm St. Vincent de Paul Society, Prison Ministry, and various ministries sponsored by West County Assembly of God.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at West County Assembly of God, 13431 North Outer 40 Road, Chesterfield, MO 63017 at 11:00 am. Visitation with the Family will begin at 9:30 am.
