Thomas F. LaZear

It is with great sorrow that the family of Thomas F. LaZear announce his passing following surgery early Sunday morning, June 11, 2017 at the age of 69. Tom and his big love, big hugs and big laugh will be greatly missed by everyone, especially his children, Tommy, Lou and Kate. His grandchildren, Hayden, Easton and Adrianna will miss “Papa” playing silly games and being at every game, every time and his big hugs and “raspberries”! Tom’s siblings, Stephanie Wilson and Mike LaZear will always miss and love their baby brother, Tommy. Tom also will be missed by his nephews, Little Mike, Steve and Danny and his only niece, Cherie whom he gave his last big smile to. Tom served his country in Vietnam and remains a proud soldier. For the last two decades Tom has devoted his life to improving his golf game and more importantly helping others in their recovery. Words cannot express the depth of his love for family and friends.

Service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Monday, June 19, 2017, 10:30 a.m.

There really isn’t much more to addto what has been said. I will miss playing golf with him. His smile and his words of encouragement. I love Tom and he will be in my heart always. I can only pray to see him on the other side.

I am still in disbelief that Tom is gone. I have come to realize that he was one of the greatest gifts of my life, a dedicated, devoted father to our children and always eager to help any of us with anything, all we had to do was ask. I will miss him dearly.

    To Our Departed Brother Thomas:

You are a veteran. You wore the uniform. You did your duty. You sacrificed your youth and endured the separation from loved ones. You served your country with selfless devotion. Now, your battles are over. You are gone, but not forgotten; for you will always have the undying gratitude of those you served and the respect of those who served with you. May you rest in eternal peace.

Tom, you are such a big part off my recovery. You always put a smile on my face. So goofy. Yet loving, supportive and an inspirational example. You’ve helped so many and I’m so grateful your paths crossed in this journey. See you everyday in the meetings and one day in the Big meeting in the Heavens when our HPs connect. Much love and many prayers to the LaZear family and friends in this sad time. He will always be with us in our hearts and memories.

    Rest easy my friend.

“Nor shall your valor be forgotten,
    While fame her record keeps,
Or honor points to the hallowed spot,
    Where valor proudly sleeps.”

The passing of Thomas has left the comrades of Company B, 2d Battalion, 1st Infantry, Americal Division with a large fracture among our ranks. We will once again resume, when we meet in the halls of Heaven. You have performed your duties in an outstanding manner on Earth. Rest in peace. We will continue to support your patriotism as you would have chosen.
