Ronald Jacob Flier
died May 14, 2019 at the age of 81.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Vicki, step-daughter Cheri (Dan) Robinson, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter Laurra Huntley and son Christopher Flier.
Ron retired from Ralston Purina Company (Nestle Purina) after 36 years with 20 plus patents to his name. He received the Missouri Inventor of the Year in 1977 from the Bar Association of Greater St. Louis.
Ron was in the first class at Washington University of Executive Master of Business Administration – EMBA. He retired from Ralston Purina Company as the Vice President of Research and Development in 1993.
Ron was active in the Sports Car Club of America, St. Louis Region, and received the national SoloII Driver of Eminence Award in 1988. For 23 years, he was a high performance driving instructor for the Porsche Club, Audi Club and the BMW Club.
Ron began his second career as a well respected regional artist and a constant supporter of Art St. Louis. His work is held by many prominent St. Louis collectors.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held
Tuesday, June 4, at the Tapawingo National Golf Club in
Sunset Hills, from 4-7p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
So sorry to hear about Ron passing! He was so vibrant and full of energy. I remember he was in one of the first artists to join the Gateway Pastel Artists which meant at my house for a couple of years until the group became to big and we had to move it to the library. His painting always inspired me. They were really a work of art as he was also! He told captivating stories of things that had happened to him and Vicki- like the time they were riding separate motor scooters in Big Bend National Park and Vicki broke her ankle. They were so far back with not phone service. He couldn’t leave her there by herself so he told her it wasn’t broke and to ride out of there with him. When they finally got to town-the Dr. was off that day so they had to ride to another town. Vicki made it all the way!
Vicki and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Ron was such a generous man and friend, I will always remember his smiling face and kindness. And, he was fun. And he was a talented artist. I am so heartbroken and hope that his memory will be a blessing to you all. My sympathy, Robin

Dear Vicki, We’re so very sorry to have learned of Ron’s passing and also very much regret not being able to attend his service on Tuesday. We were out of town visiting family. Ron was always a good friend to me during my time at Purina and we often had talks about a lot of things not related to work. He was a very interesting and successful person who always left his stamp on everything he became involved in. Please know that Marsha and I are thinking about you and will remember Ron and you in our prayers.
A great cousin and son of my favorite uncle. I have some fond memories of Ron, and of Vickie, and of uncle Jake. Ron will always be missed. We were all proud of Ron. RIP.
Vickie, I hope we can visit with you sometime way out west when we are passing through, as we have plans to do.

Learned of Ron’s passing today, very sad. Ron was a hard-nosed competitor with a great heart. A great listener and resource. Will always remember Ron tinkering on the Lotus, always trying to find that extra 10th. Vicki, sorry for your loss.
Just heard of Ron’s passing. We were great racing buddies since the 70’s. Ron was about the smartest man I have ever met. He was also kind and a lot of fun to be around. He will be greatly missed! My heartfelt condolences to Vicki and the family. Randy Herrick

I missed you both and I know Ron told you of messages I sent you two. I lost touch when I transferred to work along the South Border. Tried to help during the Afghan pullout. Wish I could have been there and hold your hand maybe or watch you quilt 😊. I retired a year ago from working an out of control border, ( I did all I could do ). I will try and find you if I get back St. Louis way.
