Nancy June Lucas

Lucas, Nancy June

(nee Sater) 73, passed away June 7, 2017. Beloved mother of Ricky and Linda Lucas (Richard Harrison Jr.). Dear grandmother of Joriann Rose Kemper and Kari Kemper. A loving sister to Tom, Terry, Judy Albert (Sater), Pat, Mike, Sharon Elder (Sater), and Tim. Dear sister-in-law of Judi, Karen, Eva, Dave, and Neysa. Dear Aunt of Tom, Marlena, Bryan, Justin, Alex, Dina, Chris, Amanda, Katie, Kelsey, Diane, Mark, Luke, Matt, Kristen, Tyler, Ryan and Daniel. Dear great aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbor to many.

The eldest girl of eight children, she was born deaf and attended St. Joseph’s Institute for the Deaf. She received her Education Certificate from Pattonville High School. Later, she worked at the Sheltered Workshop in Wellston. In addition, she worked at National Healthcare Nursing Home in Bridgeton. After marrying, her life continued to blossom despite her hearing deficit. She found tremendous joy in being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her love for her family and friends was absolutely boundless. Her passions in life were many; music, singing, dancing, bingo, sketching, koala bears, and laughing. And, everyone knew of her love for the color purple! Perhaps she was best known for her simple, heartfelt birthday cards that we all looked forward to each year.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lester Lucas, and her parents, Dale and June (Foster) Sater. She was a sweet, kind, and gentle soul with a great sense of humor. She touched our lives in a way that simply cannot be measured in words. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Services: A memorial service will held on June 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4161 Cypress Road, Saint Ann, MO 63074. (Nancy would love it if you would honor her by wearing her favorite color purple to the service!)

Memorial Contributions may be made to The Greater St. Louis Association of the Deaf, 2190 Creve Coeur Mill Road, Maryland Heights, MO 63043. Nancy played Bingo every Wednesday here and loved it so much!

My dear sister, Nancy born deaf and with learning disabilities. Nancy was 9 years older than me. During my childhood I assisted Nancy with daily living activities. I volunteered at St.Joseph’s, when I turned 16 I drove her to and from her sheltered workshop. In my youth I only pictured myself helping Nancy and teaching Nancy. In more recent years I realized the things my siblings and I could learn from Nancy, forgiveness, and unconditional love. R.I.P.

My sincere condolences to ALL of Nancy’s family. It was my privilege to get to know her when we just hung out and watched movies together, along with her Mom June. I will miss her many stories and especially her kind smile…along with you.
