Michael D. Bardol, 85, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 10 pm. He was the beloved husband of Gloria (nee Schmidt) for 61 years having celebrated their wedding anniversary on February 4^th. He was the loving father/father-in-law of Michele (Ed) Melton, Tom (Teresia) Bardol, Linda (Mickey Chervitz) Bardol, Chris (Sue) Bardol. He was the dear grandfather of Sara Melton, Katie Laurentius (nee Melton), Jenifer Pearson (nee Bardol), Ryan Bardol, Lauren Bardol, Michael Bardol and Brittany Bardol. He was the dear great-grandfather to Alex and Samantha Stumpf, Arabella and Audrey Bardol, and Brayden Larkin. He was a loving brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Youngest child of Michael and Josephine (nee O’Donnell) Bardol he was born on April 20, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack (Jean) Bardol and sisters Jane (Robert) Walsh and Alice (Elmer) Schlueter. Before marrying Gloria he proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. After the service he met Gloria in a bar or lounge, depending upon who you talk to. They had four children that he was extremely proud of. The family would go on camping vacations and weekend camping trips. The kids have fond memories of camping, fishing, learning to dive off a diving board, etc. Early in his career he was a Fireman for Riverview Fire Department. The kids have fond memories of visiting the fire house and the firetruck – lights and sirens blaring – coming to visit us at the house. While a Fireman he had several ‘2^nd jobs’ to make ends meet including driving an ambulance, a traveling trinket sales person, etc. He loved being a fireman but he couldn’t support his family so he decided to go to Barber School. After working for Moretti’s Barber Shop in Bissell Hills for a few years the entrepreneur bug got to him and he opened Mike’s Barber Shop in Bellefontaine Neighbors. Several of the men reading this probably had their hair cut by Mike. He closed the shop and retired at the age of 62 ½. During his retirement he continued to cut hair at nursing homes and the Veterans Hospital. In addition he would make house calls for those that were unable to leave home for a haircut. He enjoyed fishing and just last week asked his son Tom if he thought they could go fishing one last time. He was a loving father who knew when to be stern and when to be soft. He enjoyed ‘tinkering’ with small engine repair, working in the yard, being an usher at church, being a chauffeur to the airport for his kids, going to the beauty supply store and buying hair care products for his kids and grandkids, etc. He loved to have projects whether it was building a trailer that he didn’t need or buying a guitar kit that he ultimately returned.

Whether you knew him as Mike, Michael, Mickey, Mick, Mike the Barber or Dad he was a friend and neighbor to all. He lived and loved life to its fullest. He will be deeply missed.

Services: Visitation will begin at 10 am on April 1^st at Saints Joachim & Ann Catholic Church, 4112 McClay Road, St. Charles MO 63304. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11 am.
