Mrs. Leta “Maudella” Patterson, daughter of

the late George Elsworth Bradley and Beatrice McHenry Bradley

was born October 17, 1932 in Smithville, Missouri.

She attended the public schools in Smithville. After she received her nursing degree, she became an obstetrics nurse at Spelman Hospital in Smithville until her retirement. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Smithville where her husband served as music director for many years. At the time of her death, she was a beloved and active member of First Baptist Church of St. Charles located in St. Charles, Missouri. She was united in holy matrimony to Donn Lanford Patterson in April of 1958 in Smithville, Missouri. This union was blessed with two children. Donn Patterson preceded her in death on May 31, 1993.

As a result of Maudella’s generous spirit, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was inspirational, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Cedarhurst Assisted Living located in St. Charles, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her son Larry Michael Patterson; her sisters Alice LaVerne White and Cleora Pearl Anderson; and her brothers Henry Lowell Bradley, John Carlyle Bradley and Calvin Grayson Bradley; and niece Carol Bradley Dean.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her son Kent Dean Patterson, and daughter-in-law Dawn Ellen Anderson of St. Charles, Missouri; twin grandsons Andrew Marvin Patterson and Matthew Donn Patterson of St. Charles, Missouri; devoted family members: Gary and Sarah Anderson; Crayton and Jan White; and Ray and Gail Dean; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was dearly loved and will be missed by fellow members of Bob Hart’s Bible study class of the First Baptist Church in St. Charles, Missouri.

The family would especially like to thank special friends Jan Hart of St. Charles, Missouri, and Al and Thelma Schettler of Florissant, Missouri, for their relentless care for Maudella as she fought her brave battle with cancer over the last months of her life.

  1. AL AND THELMA SCHETTLER says:

DEAR KENT AND DAWN, ANDREW AND MATTHEW – WE JUST GOT THE OBITUARY OF OUR DEAR MAUDELLA SERVICE. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE THERE FOR HER SINCE SHE HAS BEEN OUR BELOVED FRIEND FOR MANY, MANY YEARS. WE MADE TRIPS WITH HER TO KANSAS CITY TO SEE HER FAMILY SEVERAL TIMES AND ALWAYS ENJOYED THEIR FRIENDSHIP AS WELL. WE WILL ALWAYS CARRY YOU IN OUR HEARTS DEAR ONE.

  2. Deborah Hammonds says:

If there is anyone who deserved the honorific of “A Life of Grace”, it was Maudella. God tested her sorely, but she reflected grace upon grace. I never heard an unkind word or a complaint from her – ever. I had few Godly women models in my life when younger; it was a privilege to watch her example at FBC St. Charles.

She was full-on invested in the lives of her twin grandsons and their spiritual growth. I hope one day they realize what they’ve lost in her prayers and intercession on their behalf.

How sad to know her final days were so extremely uncomfortable; her dear friends who visited and relentlessly advocated for her care are true saints. God bless them 10X over for stepping up when it counted.

She rests in health and peace with her beloved Savior. Godspeed, sweet sister in Christ.
