John was born Jan. 1, 1945 and passed peacefully in his home on Jan. 13, 2017 with his wife of 50 years, Carol (nee Ashbrook) and his loving sons; John Jr., Jeff (Tiffany) and Greg (Ulonda) at his side.
He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren; Jeffrey D., Jessica (Jeff), Jeremy, Ricki, Evelyn, Austin (Ashley); and 2 great-granchildren, Emilia Scout and Bently. He was preceded in death by his parents; Fred and Myrtle, and 3 brothers; Fred, Gene and Charles.
John graduated in January 1965 from O’Fallon Tech., where he mastered the art of woodworking. He was employed in Clayton by the St. Louis County Corrections Dept. for 17 years. John was passionate about woodworking and big game hunting, which led him to his true calling-taxidermy. He owned and operated American Wilderness Studio for 35 years until his retirement. He was an Army vet and loving “family man” with a great sense of humor, and we cherish his wonderful memory.
Per his wishes, John was cremated and the family will celebrate his life privately at a later date. John had a very generous heart and supported many causes through the years such as the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital, John Hagee Ministries, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, and the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ). Memorial contrubutions to any of these favorite charities would be appreciated.
Please share your memories of John and messages for his family below.
