Joan Margaret Garthe

Joan Margaret Garthe passed away peacefully on Monday May 8, 2017, in St. Louis, Missouri surrounded by family.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a future date. Joan was born in Brisbane, Australia. During World II, she worked on the staff of General MacArthur, where she met and married her first husband, Edward (Bill) Tiefenbrun. She then came to the United States as a war bride and made her home in St. Louis, Missouri. Widowed in 1955 she returned to Australia, only to return to St. Louis and marry Kenneth Garthe, to whom she was married to for 32 years.

Joan volunteered for service organizations up until the last year of her life. She loved golf and played for years, and when she stopped she took that same passion to bridge. She was active in a number of groups and looked forward to her games immensely.

Joan is survived by her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other family and friends.

Joan was preceded in death by Kenneth Garthe and Edward Tiefenbrun, and her daughter Joyce Tiefenbrun Finley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Crossroads Hospice.

The family of Joan Garthe wishes to thank the staffs at Crossroads Hospice and Chesterfield Villas a division of Delmar Gardens for the care and kindness they gave to Joan.
