Harold Douglass Allen

Harold Douglass Allen passed away at the age of 69 on January 31, 2019. He was born on February 2nd, 1949 in Charlottesville, VA to Eliot Dinsmore Allen and Dorothy Lois Douglass, joining sister Lois and later followed by brothers Douglass (Earl) and Ethan. His childhood was spent in Amhert, MA, and his early schooling years were spent at Mercersburg Academy. He then attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill for his undergraduate degree in English followed by North Carolina State University for his true passion of engineering where he excelled and received his engineering degree.
Following graduation, he moved to St. Louis to begin his successful engineering career. Here he met Peggy Eckstrom, to whom he was married for 21 years. Together they had two daughters, Ashley and Erica. During this time, he loved playing the piano, photography, and making improvements to the home he designed and built. Later in life he married Debra Ackerson, continued his hobby of home renovations, took an interest in gardening, and developed a love for growing and showing irises.
Harold is survived by his siblings Lois Allen and Ethan Allen, Peggy Eckstrom Gay and their daughters Ashley and Erica, Debra Ackerson and her daughters Abbie and Maddie, and grandchildren EJ, Oliver, Antonio, Theo, and Scarlet. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday February 9th at 2:30 at Dayspring Baptist Church in St. Louis, with reception to follow.
