Cheryl Lynn Funk

Cheryl Lynn Funk was a remarkable person who loved nature, fishing, her pets, and most of all, her family. Sadly, she passed away much too soon on the evening of November 11, 2018 at the age of 67. Cheryl was born on October 14, 1951 in the small town of Lexington, Missouri to Archie and Frances Young. Growing up, she lived in many different places from Missouri to Colorado to California, always up for the adventure that each new home would bring.

The majority of her adult life was spent in Clinton, Missouri where she had a passion for gardening, fishing and decorating. Her family can tell you about long treks through the woods looking for the perfectly weathered boulder or flowering dogwood tree that would eventually crown her as the Yard of the Month, and she was proud to have earned it. Throughout her life she had many pet cats, but she was always careful never to cross over the line of becoming a “crazy cat lady”. Naming them always seemed to be an afterthought, though, just as Pete, Pete the 2nd, Re-Pete and Petey-cat.

But her true love was raising her children and grandchildren. Cheryl was an amazing mother to her children Jennifer Anania (Nicholas), Matthew Funk (Jennifer), and Sarah Markway (Blake), and she was very proud of them. Although she developed Parkinson’s Disease late in life, that didn’t slow her down from being the best grandma in the world to Emma, Lydia, Charlotte, Annabelle, Madelynn and Colette. And of course, she was also deeply loved by her siblings Cindy Stubbeman, Terry Bennett (Jim) and Robert Young (Darlene).

In life, Cheryl never liked being the center of attention. And to honor those wishes in death, the family has decided to hold a small private ceremony to celebrate her life. For those that wish to make a memorial donation in her name, they may be made to: The Michael J. Fox Foundation (www.michaeljfox.org) or the Parkinson’s Foundation (www.parkinson.org)
