Betty June O’Dell

Betty June O’Dell, nee Hughes, 87, formerly of Washington passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Parklane Care and Rehabilitation Center, Wentzville.

Betty was born October 12, 1931, in St. Louis, the daughter of Hazel, nee Fuller, and Albert Hughes.

She attended St Louis Public Schools and graduated from McKinley High School. She married her high school sweetheart Rogers Gerald O’Dell on February 10, 1951. She was a housewife and helped her husband operate County Wide Towing in Ellisville. When her husband became ill she went to work for the St Louis County Police Department. In 1975, she and her husband moved to Washington where they operated O’Dell Trucking Company hauling newsprint for The Missourian Publishing Company until their retirement.

After her husband’s death, she was cared for by some of her children until she recently entered the nursing facility. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, jazz music and crocheting outfits for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Holidays and summer barbeques were a wonderful time with family.

She is survived by five children, Michael (Diana) O’Dell and Deborah (David) Meador, Washington, Jerry (Tina) O’Dell, Mozelle, Bruce O’Dell, Union, and Christina (Norman) Brendel, Wentzville fourteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Stephen O’Dell, one daughter Kathleen (Dave) Farris and one granddaughter, Cheryl (Brian) Martinez, one sister Alberta (Richard) Wolz, St Louis and followed four days later by one brother Ronald (Carole) Hughes, Fenton.

A memorial service will be held at a future time at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Washington. Interment will be at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Pagedale, MO.
