Russell Newlin

Russell Newlin, age 31, passed away too young on Monday, June 3, 2013. Russ was a beloved son of Barbara (mother) and David Henke (stepfather) and the late Lyle Newlin (father). He is survived by his brothers Matthew Newlin, Ben Henke and Tom Henke. He was a loving son, brother and uncle.

Russ had a thirst for knowledge and a passion for music. He was a gifted artist and possessed a brilliant imagination which was demonstrated through his writing and poetry. Russ was a self-taught cook who delighted in creating his own unique dishes. At the time of his death, he had been working as a cook at Joe Bacardi’s restaurant in Eureka, Missouri. If Russ was not in the kitchen, he was usually kayaking on a river or lake. Russ had a special place in his heart for the tranquility of the water and never tired of spending hours paddling aimlessly.

Russ will be missed by a great number of friends who remember his easy-going nature and welcoming personality. Whether someone needed a shoulder to cry on or just an ear to listen, Russ was always there for his friends.

A Visitation will be held for Russell on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 from 12-2pm at the Chapel of St. Louis Cremation, 2135 Chouteau Ave., St. Louis MO 63103.

Please leave your memories of Russell and messages of love and condolences to the family below.

Russ was always smiling and laughing and could make everyone around him smile too. He will be greatly missed.

Russ may have been a self-taught cook but everything he made was delicious. I am so grateful that I got to experience his cooking in the few short months that he lived with me (and I think he was grateful to have people to experiment on!) He was such a genuinely caring and loving person and I am honored that he was my best friend.
