Chauncey Birt

Mr. Chauncey Roderick Birt of St. Louis, MO died on August 27th, 2014 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. The cause of death was medical complications due to renal disease. He was 57 years old.

His parents were Eugene L. Birt and Erma Jean Vines-Birt-Owens. Chauncey is survived by his brothers Frederick Birt, Jerard Owens, and Byron Owens; his nieces and nephews; Brandon Birt, Fredrick Birt, Cortez Owens, Jerard Owens, Deja Owens, Byron Owens, Niya Owens, Niko Owens, Amari Owens, Josiah Owens, and Nathaniel Birt; his sister-in-laws Anita Hoyer-Birt, Adria Tippins-Owens and Jennifer Huskey; his cousins Zelma Hall, Ethel James Stanton, Alma Phell, Dorothy Jenkins, Gwendolyn Rodgers, Linda Griffin, Taleatha Vines, Velma Vines, Tim Roberson, Frederick Roberson, Leaman Roberson and a host of cousins totaling over 300.

Life

Chauncey was born June 9th, 1957 in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from University City High School in 1975 and Drake University in 1979, majoring in Journalism. After college he worked for many years at RGIS where he was a team manager of an inventory crew for various stores in Iowa. Upon his return to St, Louis, Chauncey was a manager at Sara Lou’s Restaurant and the Golden Slipper Bar.

From 2004 to 2009 Chauncey was office manager with Universal Holistic Healthcare. He was instrumental in the growth and success of the “Living By Design” program that delivered health care services and education to the underinsured and underserved HIV community.

Chauncey was an avid Cardinals baseball fan. He enjoyed playing cards, scribbage, spending time with friends and traveling. Chauncey was loved by many. He was a loving, caring and independent person whose optimism and love for life was contagious.

 

Service

A funeral service mass will be held at 11:00am at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1371 Hamilton Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63112. There will be a viewing of Chauncey at 10:00 am. Following the service a repast will be held at the church.
