Bennie Crusby

BENNIE CRUSBY [July 24, 1947 – April 11, 2014]

Bennie was born in Bakersfield, CA, the beloved first son of William and Allie Crusby (a Navy Ship Steward and a homemaker). The family later moved to St. Louis.

Both parents and siblings, Loretta, William and Burton transitioned before him.

Left to cherish his memory is a son Benny Cole, a daughter Ramona Woolen; three grandchildren, Benny L. Cole, Danta and Seirda Smith; and three great grands. Surviving siblings are John Jeffries, Monica McFee, Betty Crusby, Debra Gray and their many descendents. And there’s family matriarch Dorine Green and the California Crew.

Bennie attended Vashon High School. Although never married, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a dapper dresser, fun loving and charming. Generous to a fault, Bennie would cheerfully give you his last dime. But he’d never forgive a broken promise. Smart and spiritual, he was quick to acknowledge he played the hand he dealt himself.

Speaking of hands, if it’s Spades or Bid Whist, he would likely win. Dominoes…Slam those bones. Fishing…Perfect on a hot summer day. Sports of all sorts…Yes!

When telling a joke or raising a toast, no one could bring it like Bennie. And no one was offended, at least not intentionally.

Family and friends enjoyed his unconditional love and returned it tenfold. We miss him already.

So hats off to you, our brave and handsome warrior. And thanks for sharing this classy act called Bennie Crusby’s Life. Nicely done!

I’m fortunate to have grown up under your loving and supportive care. You always had a positive outlook, full of fun and jokes as well as supportive advice. You remained dedicated to your family and we greatly miss your presence and spirit. You are now among the greatness of our other family members who have passed on, give them all a hug for me and we look for you all to continue to watch over us. Love, Bonita.
