Archibald Raymond Wolverson

Archibald Raymond Wolverson, 96, of Webster Groves, Missouri, November 29, 2014. Ray was born in St. Louis in 1918 to the late Archibald Munrow and the late Olga Spruce Wolverson. Father of Shirley, of Webster Groves and Nancy, of Reno, Nevada.

Ray served his country in the US Army during WWII. He received the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service in France and Germany as a Staff Sergeant at the Seventh Army Headquarters, having also served in North Africa and Sicily. Ray and his sister, the late Olga Wolverson Bertsch, grew up in Webster Groves where his father owned a grocery store, and they graduated from Webster Groves High School. He returned from military service to Webster Groves and returned again in 1956 with his first wife (the late Sue Rubin Wolverson) to raise their daughters. Ray spent most of his life in the St. Louis area, enjoying some of his retirement years in Denver, Colorado then returning to live his last few years in Webster Groves. Ray was an independent, free-thinker who read voraciously, enjoyed photography and wrote several short books that he self-published and printed after teaching himself offset lithography.

The interment service will be December 12, 2014, 11:30 am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please think of Ray next time you donate to your favorite charitable organization.
